Subject: Legislative Update 5/20/99

Date: Tue, 18 May 1999 09:53:33 -0800

From: Ann Ringstad <snatr@alaska.edu>

On this, the 120th day of the legislative session, this is where the University stands.

FYI - the Operating Budget Conference Committee completed its work last night and will sign the report this morning. The House Finance Committee worked until 5:00 this morning developing a capital budget. Both of these bills will be on the House and Senate Floor today and tomorrow. This is NOT a done deal until it's over...

FY00 Operating Budget for UA:

base of $166,333,000 plus $5,611,000 plus $400,000 for a total of $172,344,000. (Note that employee contract funding provision is also included in front section of operating budget.) $3,464,900 for Y2K (GF)

FY00 UA Capital Budget:

$450,000 for Small Business Development Center (GF)

$3M for Hutchison Career Center (AIDEA funds)

$800,000 for UAS Rec Center (student fees/tuition/services)

$33,000+ for library books for UAA from a reappropriation

New Board of Regents were unanimously confirmed by the legislature on 5/18.

A final report will be forthcoming once the session has ended.

To all of you who advocated so strongly for the University, a heartfelt thank you. Your efforts have indeed paid off.
